This site is created for you, The Midnight Trilogy fans, to keep you informed of my recent projects. It will mostly be all about of Robert Jalarvo's and mine project "Midnight Engine Scenario Editor", or MEScEd for short.

MEScEd is a tool for creating scenario files for Chris Wild's "The Midnight Engine". Find out more about Midnight Engine on Icemark website.

For now, only utilities that you can download are LoMex, or "Lords of Midnight Map Explorer" and UniMapGen, or "Lords of Midnight Random Map Explorer".

Date Description
Before You can read old news here.
LoMEx - Map Explorer 2.4

LoMEx is basically viewer for maps created by "Save game" command from various Midnight games. You can change size of cells; scroll through entire Midnight map; view various army information for both sides; switch display of various map elements; save map to bitmap file in BMP, GIF and JPEG formats and more.

Currently supported and tested games include:

  • The Midnight Engine v0.0016 alpha
  • War of the Solstice alpha v0.02 and v0.03
  • MS-DOS Lords of Midnight v1.10
  • MS-DOS Doomdark's Revenge v1.10
MEScEd - Scenario Editor 0.0.1.119

MEScEd is work in progress. It's a scenario editor for Midnight Engine. Currently supported version is 0.016, but as development of Midnight Engine should progress, so shall hopefully be with MEScEd also. Main features of MEScEd are: ease of use; random map generator; use of pictograms and/or colors for terrain, objects and regiments; integrated pictogram editor; simplicity - no additional files/engines are needed.

See some [Screenshots] of MEScEd.

MEScEd help file 1.01

MEScEd help file is also work in progress and it accompanies MEScEd editor. It is made by Robert Jalarvo. Help file is in standard HTML Help (.CHM) format. It will be included in distribution package along with MEScEd executable, but you can download it from here separately.
LoMScape - Scenery Viewer 1.0

As a byproduct of MEScEd development came this little tool. It generates a random map and then lets you wander around the world of Midnight. All graphics are incorporated in executable, so no extra files are needed. Graphics are borrowed from The Midnight Engine, and are courtesy of Chris Wild and Jure Rogelj.

UniMapGen - Universal Map Generator 2.65

What once was known as LoMRMEx has become UniMapGen and is standalone version of map generator which is incorporated in MEScEd, now in development. You can choose between three map generation options: Plasma fractal, cEvo algorithm and heightmap import. Many options will help you fine tune maps you make. When map is created you can scroll through it just like in LoMEx and export it to bitmap, Midnight/MU, HTML or SQL script file. In its latest version UniMapGen incorporates LOMScape as well, so you can immediately explore map you just created.
Midnight/MU related stuff

This page covers all stuff connected with Midnight/MU, online implementaion of LoM by Jean-Yves Rouffiac. Check Midnight/MU home page for more details.

Other info

Executable files are first stripped of relocation table with StripReloc and then compressed with UPX, thus their smaller sizes.

Both utilities are freeware and console type.
